The Artificial Mind and the Creative Gaze: How AI Is Transforming the World of Audiovisual Media

There was strong participation and great interest in the Open Forum dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, one of the most anticipated events within the cultural program of the 79th edition of the Salerno International Film Festival. The meeting brought together professionals, students, enthusiasts, and members of the local community for an open discussion on the transformations that AI is generating in the audiovisual sector and, more broadly, in contemporary society.

Presented by Dr. Paola De Cesare, Artistic Director of the Festival, and moderated by writer Tullio Benissone, the panel opened with greetings from Dr. Prof. Ida Lenza, Headmistress of the Torquato Tasso Classical High School.

The discussion featured contributions from:

  • Prof. Francesco Colace, Director of the ICT Center for Cultural Heritage – University of Salerno
  • Prof. Michele Nappi, Department of Computer Science – University of Salerno
  • Antonio Monizzi, Storytelling Specialist
  • David D’Amico, Film Producer

The debate explored crucial themes—from the impact of generative technologies on the creative process to the new opportunities AI offers in the production and distribution of audiovisual works.

Speakers highlighted how Artificial Intelligence represents not only a challenge but also a fertile ground for innovation, provided it is understood, regulated, and used responsibly.

The Open Forum once again reaffirmed the Festival’s commitment to promoting in-depth discussions that connect technology, culture, and creativity, offering the city an opportunity for active engagement with a topic destined to profoundly shape the future of cinema and the visual arts.
